David Gilmour Auctioning His Guitars

David Gilmour’s legendary black strat is just one of 120 guitars about to be auctioned by the legendary Pink Floyd guitarist.

The guitar is expected to fetch between $100,000 and $150,000 when Christie's releases it for auction June 20th. CLICK HERE to view the auction listing.

I’m thinking it will go for waaaay more than that. This guitar was used on “Money”, “Wish You Were Here” and “Comfortably Numb”, just to name a few.

In a statement, Gilmour said, ‘These guitars have given so much to me, and it’s time for them to move on to other people who hopefully will find joy, and perhaps create something new.’

The most impressive thing about the auction is where the money is going. ALL of it, to charity.

Gilmour said, “By auctioning these guitars, I hope that I can give some help where it is really needed and through my charitable foundation do some good in this world. It will be a wrench to see them go and perhaps one day I’ll have to track one or two of them down and buy them back!”

Gilmour bought the famous black strat at Manny’s on West 48th Street in New York City back in 1970. The biggest guitarists in the world bought guitars from Manny’s. When playing shows at Madison Square Garden, they’d stop in and play a few until they found their next, beloved instrument. Jimi, Eddie, Eric, Stevie...all of ‘em.

That street used to be known as “the music district”, with stores that sold instruments lining the street. But sadly, each one of those special stores has closed in the past 10 years.
